Review and Giveaway: SnoozeShade for Infant Car Seats

Posted on October 10, 2012

I recently did a review and giveaway for the SnoozeShade Plus sunshade and sleep aid for strollers and now I’m moving on through their product line to the SnoozeShade for Infant Car Seats.  I asked my friend Christine, whose twins were about three months old at the time, to give it a spin.  Here’s more about the sunshade and Christine’s thoughts.

Designed by a mom:  Cara, the mom behind SnoozeShade has “been there, done that” and used her experience, along with the experiences and feedback of other parents and caretakers, to create the SnoozeShade line of products.

UPF 50 sun protection: The AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommends that babies under 6 months of age be kept out of direct sunlight completely and that beyond 6 months sun exposure continue to be limited whenever possible, especially during peak hours (between 10am and 4pm), when UV rays are strongest.  The SnoozeShade provides both shade and UPF 50 sun protection.

Side-By-Side Comparison

Breathable fabric: Since Christine has twins and I only gave her one SnoozeShade to try out, she did a side by side comparison:  “The trouble with the blanket of course is that it falls down, blows away, etc. I also sometimes wonder what the air flow is like under a blanket, but the SnoozeShade seems totally good in that regard.”

Blocks 94% of light: Christine reported, “I’m also impressed by how much shade it provides. I had my guy under there a long time and then I took it off at 5pm, in the shade, and he was completely blinded (I felt a little bad!).”

Is he asleep yet? (Surprise! Unfortunately, not)

Easy to use (mostly): Christine found the SnoozeShade easy to put on and take off.  She liked the zipper access hole, since “with a baby, you have to go in and reinsert the binky a lot, and also check to see if all that strolling you’re doing to get him to sleep has worked.”  She sometimes found herself leaving it unzipped for easy viewing and access, “but of course then you wonder if a blinding shaft of light is just pouring into his face that way.”  Overall, she was okay with the “sneak-a-peek” front zip setup, but her husband felt it had some room for improvement.
Great hand-me-down potential:  The SnoozeShade works with all popular infant car seats with rigid carry handles and is durable and easy to clean (it’s machine washable), making it a great candidate for passing on once your baby has outgrown it.
Overall: Christine is continuing to use her SnoozeShade and said, “I really like it…Personally, I buy very few ‘creature comfort’ type items, but I would love it as a gift.”
