About Encore Baby Registry

Before my husband and I were even thinking about becoming parents, I remember pondering the cost of baby gear and shaking my head.   Couple that cost with the rate at which babies grow out of baby gear, and I thought to myself, “There ought to be a way to register for secondhand baby stuff.”

A few years later, with a baby on the way, I was trying to figure out a way to incorporate secondhand baby gear into my gift registry, research the various safety considerations I needed to be taking with secondhand items, and find an organized method to keep track of the hand-me-downs being offered from friends, family and co-workers (what I had, what needed, what had been offered and by whom, and what was being given as a loan vs to keep).  Who knew that being showered with generosity could be so complicated!

I looked for a gift registry that would fit these needs without giving up sophisticated features like item pictures and descriptions (because a “bouncer” to me may be a “jumper” to you and an “Exersaucer” to the salesperson at the consignment store).   As the story often goes, I couldn’t find what I was looking for, so I set out to create it.

In the process of making my “dream” baby registry, I’ve had the chance to incorporate much more than secondhand and hand-me-down gift giving with features like the ability for registry guests to shop locally for gifts (wherever “local” may be), the option for registrants to ask for specific gifts on loan, and to request non-material gifts, like the gifts of time and a helping hand.  You can read about more site features on our “Why Register with Encore Baby Registry” page.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you enjoy Encore Baby Registry!
