Free Car Seat Recycling Event at Target

Posted on September 11, 2017

Target is working with TerraCycle to provide free car seat recycling.  Car seats can be dropped off for recycling at Target stores (excluding “small format” locations) from September 10th through September 23rd.

As we explain on our Safety Considerations for Secondhand Car Seats page, a car seat should be discarded if it has been irreparably recalled (many recalls can be corrected with a free remedy kit provided by the manufacturer), is expired, has been in a crash, is missing parts that can’t be replaced, or is otherwise damaged or broken.  Figuring out what to do with these unusable car seats can be difficult, as recycling options are often few and far between.  This is a great opportunity to keep these masses of plastic, foam, metal, and fabric out of the landfill.  As an added bonus, Target guests who drop off a car seat for recycling will receive a 20% off coupon good for the purchase of a new car seat, including booster seats, car seat bases and travel systems, valid until October 7, 2017.
