Shannen & Kyle’s Baby Registry
Welcome! Thank you for your interest in supporting our family and approaching little girl! As first time parents, almost any gift baby-related will be the first in our stock.
This is a very open-to-interpretation registry. Some listings have more details about what we are aiming for when you click on it.
About used items:
Light stains on used items are ok, especially cloth diapers and bibs, burp cloths, etc. (those things are meant to get messy).
Please no used items from smoking or cat-filled homes.
Please no used pillows, mattresses, or bedding, due to risk of bedbugs.
More information about us and some requests to help paint a guide for our preferred kinds of gifts:
+We plan & hope to breastfeed for at least 6 months – 1 year.
+We will be cloth diapering.
+We have no separate nursery, infant stuff will be integrated into various rooms.
+We love natural products, whole food, and stuff that helps the environment somehow.
+For the baby’s clothes, we prefer natural fibers: Wool, Cotton, Linen, Bamboo, Hemp, etc. (100% cotton is easy to find, if there is some elastic that bumps the number down to the high 90’s, that is totally fine.)
+Nature color palettes like in forests or lakes/ocean, or traditionally feminine color palettes are very welcome. Boy color pallets like blues, greys, and maroons with bright, complimentary accent colors are also lovely. Undyed natural fiber color palettes of soft tans and creams is always safe. Also: Kyle loves plaid, so having some plaid for the baby would be seriously cute.
+Girl and boy toys are both welcome! But please no phones, tablets, or toys which mimic them.
+Home-made or ‘home-made’-style toys & fabric goods encourage curiosity about how it was put together, and the sense that she can learn how to make those things too. So if you’re craftily inclined and want to make her something, please do, stuff like that is so meaningful.
+Please avoid Disney or other trademark-character items.
+Please no phrases or statements on her clothes.
+We try to avoid Endocrine Disruptors. So for utensils and food storage we prefer stainless steel, glass, and wood/bamboo. Most silicones are safe (lifewithoutplastic.com/silicone/).
Guidelines to help avoid Endocrine Disruptors:
+We like products labeled “phthalate-free,” “paraben-free” or “BPA-free.”
+We want to avoid products that list “fragrance” as an ingredient, as phthalates often hide in fragrances.
+Dyes for bright colors are usually suspect.
+Plastics with the recycling symbols 3, 6, and 7 are also on the experts’ naughty lists.
Thank you again for looking at our registry and considering helping us out!
